Wahoo

Do Wahoo ELEMNT rides count toward Garmin training load?

Not when the ride reaches Garmin Connect as a file, which is the only way Wahoo documents: in our measurement, a ride from a Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM that another app uploaded to Garmin Connect showed no Training Effect and no training load. Garmin’s list of partner platforms does contain the entry “Wahoo”, but it names no device and no way in which Wahoo rides arrive, and Wahoo’s own list of partners does not include Garmin Connect.

What did we measure on an ELEMNT ROAM ride?

A ride recorded on a Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM, 51.8 km long, was uploaded to Garmin Connect as a file by another sync app. On 12 September 2026 Garmin Connect showed it with distance, calories, heart rate, power, elevation, cadence, temperature and intensity minutes, but without Training Effect and without training load. We exported the file back out of Garmin Connect: its File ID still named Wahoo Fitness as the manufacturer, with Wahoo’s product number 47. The app had passed the file through unchanged.

What changed when the file named the watch?

Garmin listed the same ride as a recording of the watch and calculated Training Effect and training load for it. We wrote the manufacturer, product, serial number and software version of our own Garmin Forerunner 570 into a copy of the ride, 16 bytes in total, deleted the earlier upload and imported the copy on 12 September 2026. Garmin Connect has listed it since then with the device picture and software version of the Forerunner 570, and on 30 October 2026 it showed an aerobic Training Effect of 4.3 with the primary benefit “Tempo”, an anaerobic Training Effect of 2.3 and a training load of 206 for this copy. On 13 September 2026 the Nabe app uploaded a test ride the same way, and Garmin’s activity record named the watch as the recording device, with Garmin as the manufacturer. Which bytes change is in what changes in a FIT file when Nabe sends it to Garmin.

Between the two uploads only the device named in the file differed, and Garmin followed it; the ride data in both files is byte for byte the same:

Same ELEMNT ROAM ride in Garmin Connect Device Garmin shows Training Effect and load
File as Wahoo wrote it, uploaded by another app Wahoo none, 12 September 2026
Copy with the watch’s identity, imported Forerunner 570 aerobic 4.3 (“Tempo”), anaerobic 2.3, training load 206, 30 October 2026

We did not measure whether this training load went into Training Status and acute load on the watch.

What does Garmin’s list say about Wahoo?

It lists “Wahoo” and nothing more. On Can Third-Party Activities Impact My Garmin Training Metrics?, read on 30 October 2026, Garmin writes that “activities recorded on the following platforms will impact your Garmin training metrics” and names Concept2, Peloton, Rouvy, SYSTM, TrainerRoad, Wahoo and Zwift. The entry names no ELEMNT, no app and no link between Wahoo and Garmin Connect. For every listed platform Garmin adds three conditions: a device with Unified Training Status, an activity of the same type recorded on that device with a VO2 max estimate, and two syncs after the activity arrives. On our own account the difference showed in the same weeks: a Zwift ride, sent through Zwift’s own link, had a Training Effect with the primary benefit “Base”, the ELEMNT ROAM ride had none. The same entry is discussed for SYSTM in do Wahoo SYSTM workouts count toward Garmin Training Status?

Does Wahoo send rides to Garmin Connect itself?

Not according to Wahoo. Wahoo’s page Share an activity to a third party app, updated on 24 October 2026 and read on 30 October 2026, lists 14 partners you authorise in the Wahoo app and 15 you connect from the partner’s side, among them Strava, TrainingPeaks, Komoot, COROS, Rouvy, TrainerRoad and Zwift. Garmin Connect is in neither list. The page offers a download of the ride’s FIT file instead, which you can then import into Garmin Connect yourself, as described in how to import a FIT file into Garmin Connect. Not every Wahoo entry has such a file: on 27 September 2026, 4 of the 30 workouts on the first page of our own Wahoo account came with a file address.

Why do some AI answers say yes?

Because they read the entry “Wahoo” on Garmin’s list as covering every Wahoo ride. The list states which platforms count, not how their activities get to Garmin Connect, and it says nothing about a file that a sync app or you upload. Our measurement above is a ride from an ELEMNT ROAM, that arrived exactly that way, and on 12 September 2026 it still had no Training Effect. An answer that relies on the list alone misses the condition the list leaves out: the way the ride arrives.

How does Nabe handle an ELEMNT ride?

With your watch’s identity switched on, Nabe writes the identity of your own Garmin watch into the copy it uploads, the way described above: in our reference ride 16 of 227’041 bytes change, and everything you rode stays as it was. Garmin has no official way to do this, and its list of platforms does not mention it. How rides get from Wahoo to Garmin Connect at all is in how to sync Wahoo rides to Garmin Connect.
